Sarah's Key

Sarah's Key, Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, was an amazing, but sad story. The movie starts out with Kristin Scott Thomas, who plays Julia a middle aged news reporter. Julia's husband gets an apartment from his family, which they owned since they've owned since August 1942. Julia does some research and finds out that prior to her husband's family, a jewish family, the Starzynski's owned the apartment. On July 16, 1942 the Starzynski's were forced from there home by French police. while the police were talking to Sarah Starzynski's mother, Sarah( played by Me'lusine Mayance) tried to hide her little brother in a closet in her bedroom. Sarah promised her brother, Michel, she would be back for him. The Starzynski family was taken to the Ve'lodrome d'Hiver. 12,884 Jews over 4000 of which were children, were kept in the V'el d'Hiv for several days. There was no bathroom, no food or water, and people were killing themselves. When they finally let the Jews out , they were sent on a train to a concentration camp to drop off the children and the parents were all deported, and sent to Auschwitz. Sarah's parents were among the many adults who were sent to Auschwitz, and then executed. Sarah meets a girl at the concentration camp, and they escaped with the help of a guard named Jaques. Sarah determined to keep her promise to her brother, tries to find her way back to her family's apartment in Paris. This was an AMAZING movie about a young girl's courage and love for her family. There are a few parts that are disturbing, but overall it's a very good movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes with some history.but not suitable for children.
