One Thing I Love about Media and Technology
Reflection
My reflection on how it is to have and maintain a blog is probably not what most people think. I felt it was a bit annoying trying to keep up with the blog. I felt that there were more productive things we could have done. I would have rather written several more essays or research papers, or read two more novels. Since I am a single mother of a rambunctious three year old, a full time student, and working part-time, I am limited on my time. It can be very difficult to keep up with the regular homework from all of my classes, so to try to fit a blog in there doesn't always happen. I think this would have been better off as an extra credit assignment and not a required 15% of our grade. The blog assignments were more tedious than anything. On my first blog I said "I don't read blogs let alone write them", since the semester is coming to a close, I'm pretty sure i will no longer want to keep my blog.
Sarah's Key
![]() |
Sarah's Key, Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner, was an amazing, but sad story. The movie starts out with Kristin Scott Thomas, who plays Julia a middle aged news reporter. Julia's husband gets an apartment from his family, which they owned since they've owned since August 1942. Julia does some research and finds out that prior to her husband's family, a jewish family, the Starzynski's owned the apartment. On July 16, 1942 the Starzynski's were forced from there home by French police. while the police were talking to Sarah Starzynski's mother, Sarah( played by Me'lusine Mayance) tried to hide her little brother in a closet in her bedroom. Sarah promised her brother, Michel, she would be back for him. The Starzynski family was taken to the Ve'lodrome d'Hiver. 12,884 Jews over 4000 of which were children, were kept in the V'el d'Hiv for several days. There was no bathroom, no food or water, and people were killing themselves. When they finally let the Jews out , they were sent on a train to a concentration camp to drop off the children and the parents were all deported, and sent to Auschwitz. Sarah's parents were among the many adults who were sent to Auschwitz, and then executed. Sarah meets a girl at the concentration camp, and they escaped with the help of a guard named Jaques. Sarah determined to keep her promise to her brother, tries to find her way back to her family's apartment in Paris. This was an AMAZING movie about a young girl's courage and love for her family. There are a few parts that are disturbing, but overall it's a very good movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes with some history.but not suitable for children. |
Dream Job
My"Dream Job" is to be a Pediatrician. Since I was a young girl I've always wanted to be a Pediatrician. Now it seems like an unrealisitic dream. How could I ever become a doctor? I 'm having a hard time visualizing a BSN/RN, let alone medical school. I wonder sometimes what would have happened if i would have applied myself when i was younger. what would have happened if I did go to medical school. could i have been the pediatrician that I longed to be for so many years.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
On p.180 of Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Arnold explains how everyone ( with the exception of his parents, grandmother, and Eugene) on the reservation expects him to be unsuccessful in everything he does. At Reardon, Everyone expects him to succeed and be great at everything. The coach, Roger, Penelope, Gordy and the rest of the basketball team helped him to gain a new found confidence. They even stood up for him when a teacher gave him a hard time for missing class due to so many funerals. This showed him they not only cared for him, but would also fight for him if needs be.

cartoon for ATD

This cartoon in the Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie shows Arnold trying to deny the fact that he is poor. He is so ashamed of being poor that he tries to play it off like he's rich. Roger and Penelope find out that he is in fact poor, but they don't look at him in a bad way like he thought they would. They were actually good friends to him and tried to help him in whatever way they could. It is sad that he would have to walk all the way back to the reservation most of the time, and even the thought of him walking at 3am is just heartbreaking. No child should have to endure that.
Response to "Faceless on Facebook"
In the essay "Faceless on Facebook" Kate Beals rambles on about making a facebook profile. It's pretty sad when a person practically gets anxiety over something as simple as facebook. Who cares if you even fill out the "about me" section. If you only add people you know, then they already know about you. However, you might need to watch the things you post, because it can portray you in a way you don't want people to look at you. Some people post all kinds of things without thinking, for example inappropriate pictures and other things of the sort. Kate Beals definitely put way too much thought into something so simple.
